Planet Arrakis, Dune, Best Sci Fi Planet

Frank Herbert's Dune

Arrakis, Home of the Spice

Arrakis from Dune was home to a marvellous story with brilliant writing, the books and movies spawned from this series have both inspired and caused alarm for the future, but to say this world was anything else but a true entry into the science fiction planets hall of fame, would be untrue.

I remember the first time I saw Dune, I had no idea what I was looking at but the images stuck, as soon as I got the chance I sat down with them to work my way through the books and stories, It really surprised me just how much detail went into the worlds and creation of the story.

A lot of love and time was spent on fleshing the epic story out, the writing was well ahead of its time and the iconic nature of the films and books have and will stand the test of time, It would be remiss not to think that they will continue to go into the future and gain weight as more and more lovers of science fiction find this inspirational material.

The Spice Must Flow

The "Spice Melange" or more universally known as "The Spice", prior to the ascent of House Atreides the Spice was only found on Arrakis, it played a massive role in travel and technological development.

"The Spice" was created on Arrakis way down in the depths of the sands by a natural process whereby overly large "Sandworms" and a geological process would create the much sought after material, this lead to as I am sure you can imagine all sorts of issues in regards to actually being able to mine the Spice.

Fremen

Not content with the difficulty in just huge Sandworm's to contend with Arrakis was also populated by a people called the Fremen, being natural born on the planet of Arrakis the Fremen were opposed to anyone coming to Mine the Spice, especially rich nobles and their bounties with armed elite guards in case there were issues.

Arrakis truly is and was a harsh planet, constant element's making like difficult like wind and sand drift lasting for weeks or months, Creatures so big they could swallow the entire house and street that you may well be sitting in, In some cases they could probably eat and entire city block.

Conclusion
I loved this world and if you want to find out more about it then check out more about the planet Arrakis here, or if you are interested in finding out more about the Frank Herbert's Dune Movie series or the Dune Book Collection here.
